Each year, students from all 100 counties of North Carolina journey across our state to audition for a coveted spot in the North Carolina Middle School Honor Chorus. This esteemed event showcases the top 10-15% of auditioning students, totaling approximately 180 of the most talented and dedicated young singers in North Carolina.

This year, we are thrilled to announce that Brevard Middle School has achieved an outstanding representation in the choir with 5 out of 6 students earning their place. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the following students: Riliegh C., a 7th grader, and 8th graders Kylie C., Parker D., Katie F., and Myla T.   Each of these students received perfect marks on the music reading component of their audition.  Furthermore, Myla scored a perfect 100 out of 100 on her audition, the only Soprano 2 in the state to achieve this feat.  (There were only 8 perfect scores in total across all sections).

These remarkable students are now committed to a month of diligent preparation and memorization of their music as they eagerly anticipate the upcoming weekend of rehearsals in Winston-Salem, culminating in a Sunday afternoon concert performance.  This concert, taking place in conjunction with the annual North Carolina Music Educators conference, stands as the highest honor a middle school chorister can achieve.

Their achievement underscores the vital role of music and arts programs in our schools. These programs not only foster creativity and discipline but also provide students with valuable life skills, such as teamwork, dedication, and self-expression. In Transylvania County, we are proud to support and nurture the artistic talents of our students, recognizing the profound impact of the arts on their overall education and personal growth.
